Faith and Love
(Ieemaan wa muhabbah)
A lecture delivered by Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Shafee Okarvi
(Rahmatul
Laahi ‘Alaieh).
In 1979/80 at Cape Town, South Africa
Our Beloved Prophet Muhammad [ Sallal Laahu Alaiehi Wassalam] have said
None of you can be a ‘possessor of true faith’
(mumin) unless I become dearer to him than his parents, his offspring and
in fact all human beings
In a similar Hadees that is not in the collection of Bukhari, but in
other collections wherein the word wa nafsihi is included gives the added meaning
that:
‘None of you can be a ‘possessor of true faith’ (mumin) unless I become dearer to him than his parents, his
offspring, all human beings and your own life.’
In the light of
these Qur’aanic verses and Ahadees a poet Hafeez Jalanderi has presented these two verses
of poetry:
Muhammad ki muhabbat din-e-haqq ki shart-e-awwal hai
Issi meh hoh agar kaami toh sub kuch na muqammal hai
The love for the Holy Prophet Muhammad[ Sallal Laahu Alaiehi Wassalam] is
the first condition in the religion of truth
If this love is tainted then everything
else is worthless
The prayers (salaah), fasting and apparent virtuous
deeds are all worthless if one does not possess perfect love for the Holy
Prophet (Sallal-Laahu 'Alaiehi Wa Sallam) in ones heart.
